Advantages and disadvantages of polymeric film dressings

Poly film dressings are a relatively advanced type of dressings, which have the characteristics that oxygen, water vapor and other gases can freely penetrate, while particulate foreign objects such as dust and microorganisms in the environment cannot pass through.
Therefore, this type of dressing has the following advantages:
1. Block environmental microorganisms from invading the wound surface and prevent cross infection.
2. It has moisturizing properties, so that the wound surface is moist, and it will not stick to the wound surface and will not cause repeated mechanical damage during replacement.
3. It is self-adhesive, easy to use, and transparent, making it easy to observe the wound condition.
Its main disadvantages are:
1. Poor ability to absorb exudate.
2. The cost is relatively high.
3. The skin around the wound has a great chance of maceration.
Therefore, this type of dressing is mainly used for postoperative wounds with little exudation, or as an auxiliary dressing for other dressings.
