Effect of silver ion dressing on diabetic foot infection

Diabetic foot is one of the complications of diabetes. Suppose the wound infection of a diabetic foot cannot be treated actively and effectively in the early stage. In that case, it will lead to severe consequences such as ulcers, gangrene, and even amputation, which seriously affects patients' quality of life. To quickly heal wounds and reduce infection, a new dressing, silver ion dressing, has been clinically applied in recent years. It is an antibacterial dressing made of a unique process of polymer absorbing water-based fibers and adding silver compounds, which can inhibit bacterial growth, reduce inflammation and protect—wound granulation tissue to promote wound healing.

Silver ion dressing can effectively inhibit the biological activity of common pathogenic bacteria in diabetic foot infections such as Staphylococcus aureus (including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and other non-fermenting gram-negative bacilli. Bacteria, reducing the pathogenic bacterial load in the infected soft tissues of the diabetic foot. Silver ions can not only kill bacteria but also dissociate and repeat the sterilization process after the bacteria die, with a long action time, sound effect, and no drug resistance. In addition, the silver ion dressing is for external use, not metabolized in the body, and has no catabolites. It has high sterilization safety and can inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria on the wound surface and reduce bacteria. The silver ion dressing also has a strong effect of absorbing exudate, which can promote better and faster wound healing, and when changing the sauce, it will not stick to the wound and will not cause secondary damage.

The dressings used for different stages of diabetic foot ulcers are also other.

Black stage: There is a lot of necrotic material on the wound surface, so go to the hospital for debridement to remove necrotic tissue.

Yellow stage: The wound is infected and inflammatory or has many inflammatory exudates. A silver ion dressing should be selected to absorb the exudate from the injury and clean the wound.

Red stage: The growth of granulation tissue on the wound surface should be promoted, and hydrocolloid dressings and silver ion dressings can be used to protect the wound surface.

Pink stage: Apply hydrocolloid dressings and hydrogel dressings to protect new skin healing.

    Operation method:

First, disinfect the skin around the wound with a 0.5% iodine cotton ball.

Wipe the damage with an iodophor cotton ball twice before the wound is seriously infected.

Rinse the wound with normal saline.

Dry the wound and surrounding skin with sterile gauze.

When there is a lot of necrotic tissue and slough in the wound, use autolysis and mechanical debridement to gradually remove the necrotic tissue and slough, then rinse the wound with normal saline and dry the wound and surrounding skin with sterile gauze. A silver ion dressing was applied to the wound after debridement in the control group. The edge of the sauce was 1 cm larger than the edge of the damage. Sterile gauze was added depending on the amount of harm exudate. The outer layer was covered with hydrocolloid  dressing, and the periphery was fixed with breathable paper tape to keep The moist healing environment of the wound. The treatment of diabetic foot with silver ion dressing promotes better wound healing and provides a suitable environment for wound healing.
