The theoretical basis of traditional Chinese medicine treatment of acne

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, acne is mainly related to many factors, such as excessive heat in the lungs and stomach, improper diet, emotional insufficiency, and spleen dysfunction. Traditional Chinese medicine believes intestinal flora imbalance is the performance of the conduction dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract. If the diet is disordered, excessive food is fatty and sweet, and damp heat accumulates in the body, the large intestine will be stagnant and heat. If the heat evil is scattered and not combined with the large intestine dross, the heat in the large intestine is transpired outside, and the skin is scorched by it, causing acne. The heat evil and the dryness of the large intestine are then bound together, the qi of the fu-organs is blocked, and the Yangming meridians are blocked. Clinically, acne patients are often accompanied by gastrointestinal symptoms such as bad breath, abdominal distension, constipation, and gastric reflux, which echoes the theory of traditional Chinese medicine.

How to treat it scientifically?

Depending on the type of acne and its etiology, we should use different treatment options.

1. Acne and cyst type:

For acne, you can directly use a hydrocolloid acne patch. It is a special hydrophilic hydrocolloid as the primary raw material. This natural material can absorb secretions after it is attached to the acne. Moreover, it can play the role of physical sunscreen, which can reduce the damage caused by ultraviolet rays to the skin and prevent pigmentation from leaving deep acne marks. The acne patch also isolates the bacteria in the air from contact with the acne, reducing the chance of acne infection, so the acne patch is also suitable for inflamed acne with pustules.

2. Papules and scar types:

It can be taken orally through Chinese herbal medicine, absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract, and interact with the intestinal flora. At the same time, intestinal flora metabolites also bio transform traditional Chinese medicine's active ingredients. Pharmacological studies have shown that most Chinese herbal medicines can directly inhibit intestinal pathogens' growth and synergistic effect on probiotics. Stubborn acne can be treated with acupuncture, massage (Quchi, Hegu, Dazhui, Weizhong, Tianshu), and other acupoints on the bladder meridian of Foot Taiyang and Stomach Meridian of Foot Yangming to regulate the stomach and clear the lungs to heat causes evil to have a way out, dredging the Yangming meridian of the sun, thereby improving the imbalance of intestinal flora.

Healthy ways to deal with acne:
