Prevention of Cosmetic Surgery Site Infections

Plastic surgery site infection refers to the situation where the surgical site is infected with pathogenic microorganisms after plastic surgery. Plastic surgery site infection is one of the common complications in plastic surgery, which may lead to surgical failure, delayed healing, wound dehiscence, scar hyperplasia, and other problems, and may even endanger the life and health of patients.

There are many reasons for plastic surgery site infection, mainly including the following aspects:

1. Insufficient preparation before surgery, for example, the patient did not perform operations such as bathing and disinfection as required by the doctor or did not stop taking certain drugs on time.

2. The operation during the operation is not standardized, such as incomplete disinfection of surgical instruments, contamination of the surgical site during the operation, etc.

3. Improper postoperative care, such as incomplete cleansing of the wound, improper bandaging, etc.

4. The patient's own immunity is low and he is susceptible to infection.

The main ways to prevent plastic surgery site infection include the following aspects:

1. The preparation before the operation should be sufficient. Patients should perform bathing, disinfection, and other operations according to the doctor's requirements, and at the same time inform the doctor of their allergy history, medical history, and medication.

2. The operation during the operation should be standardized. The doctor needs to strictly abide by the operation specification and operation process, ensure the disinfection and use of surgical instruments, and avoid the occurrence of cross-infection.

3. The post-operative care should be proper, and appropriate functional wound dressings should be used. Patients need to clean and bandage the wound according to the doctor's requirements to avoid infection and other complications.

4. Patients need to pay attention to the improvement of their own immunity, such as maintaining good nutrition and sleep, avoiding fatigue and stress, etc.

Which wound dressings are suitable for use after plastic surgery?

Wound dressings used after plastic surgery should be selected based on factors such as the surgical site, surgical method, wound size, and healing. Generally, the commonly used wound dressings are as follows:

1. Transparent Dressing: suitable for larger wounds, such as wounds after breast plastic surgery. Transparent dressings have the advantages of being transparent, waterproof, and breathable, which can keep the wound dry and facilitate the observation of wound healing.

2. Silicone Foam Dressing: The gentle pressure of foam reduces the stress of edema wound tissue, which can promote the improvement of microcirculation and the growth of granulation tissue. This process improves microcirculation and favors the development of granulation tissue. After it absorbs liquid, the surface layer of the dressing has a porous structure, low surface tension, no adhesion to the wound surface, good air permeability, elasticity, softness, strong plasticity, lightweight, and stable physical and chemical properties. Gas exchange is beneficial to wound healing, and it will not bring pain to the patient when changing the dressing, and the operation is simple and convenient.

3. Silicone Scar Dressing: suitable for wounds with severe scars, such as wounds after scar repair surgery. It has the effects of softening scars, promoting wound healing, and preventing scar hyperplasia, but doctors need to choose and use them according to the patient's condition. Reduce scarring, but doctors need to choose and use it according to the patient's condition.

4. Silver Ion Dressing: Silver dressings are topical wound care products derived from ionic silver. This dressing releases a steady amount of silver into the wound and provides an antibacterial or antimicrobial effect. Depending on the amount of exudate and bacteria in the wound, the silver is activated from the dressing onto the wound surface. Silver dressings are available as foam dressings, hydrocolloids, barriers, and carbon cloth dressings. Silver dressings can be used with other dressings to reduce bacterial load, inhibit exudate, and optimize the appearance of wound granulation tissue.

How to prevent complications after plastic surgery?

1. Before the operation, the doctor needs to conduct a comprehensive assessment and examination of the patient to determine the surgical plan and surgical risks. At the same time, patients also need to make adequate preparations, such as quitting smoking, drinking, maintaining good nutrition and sleep, etc. In addition, patients also need to inform the doctor of their allergy history, medical history, and medication, so that the doctor can make more accurate judgments and treatments.

2. During the operation, doctors need to strictly abide by the surgical specifications and operating procedures to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the operation. At the same time, doctors also need to pay close attention to the patient's vital signs and surgical conditions to detect and deal with surgical complications in a timely manner. In addition, doctors also need to pay attention to the disinfection and use of surgical instruments to avoid cross-infection.

3. After the operation, the patient needs to follow the doctor's advice and guidance, such as keeping rest, avoiding strenuous exercise, taking medicine on time, etc. At the same time, patients also need to closely observe the changes and symptoms of the surgical site, and report abnormalities to the doctor in time. In addition, patients also need to pay attention to the care and cleaning of surgical wounds to avoid infection and other complications.
