Why do small wounds still appear red after healing?

1. Initial wound (1-15 days)

Reason: In the early stage of injury, the wound will show symptoms of congestion, redness, and exudation due to local inflammatory reactions. This inflammatory response usually lasts about two weeks.

Coping method: If the wound continues to be red and accompanied by stinging pain, it means that the inflammatory reaction is serious. It is recommended to seek medical treatment in time and apply anti-infective drugs, such as Bactoban, erythromycin ointment, etc. If there is only simple redness and no other discomfort, you can observe it closely. The redness symptoms will usually subside over time.

2. Scar proliferation period (1-6 months)

Reason: At this stage, the fibroblast function is active and the regulatory ability is imbalanced, resulting in the production of excessive unnecessary collagen fibrin, causing local congestion and redness of the scar.

How to deal with it: For redness and itching, you can apply scar cream or scar patches to relieve the symptoms. The scar cream contains ingredients such as silicone, onion extract, Centella Asiatica, etc., which can effectively soften connective tissue, relieve telangiectasia, and fade red marks. Among them, silicones are more effective in preventing hyperplasia. If the scar is red, hard, and obviously raised, the effect of scar cream is limited, and drug injection, laser, or surgical treatment can be considered .

3. Hypertrophic scars or keloids (more than 6 months old)

Reason: The scar has entered the hyperproliferative phase. At this time, the scar has matured and no longer continues to proliferate, and its color gradually turns light red or close to skin color. However, after the proliferative period of keloid scars exceeds 9 months , the redness will not improve, and may even worsen.

Coping method: For hypertrophic scars that have stabilized, no special treatment is required if they do not affect the appearance. If you have requirements for aesthetics, you can consider injections combined with laser or surgical treatment for improvement.

Please note that the above information is for reference only. If you have any questions or discomfort, please seek medical advice promptly and consult a professional doctor. Regarding the treatment of keloid scars, the effectiveness of drug application is usually limited, and other methods need to be sought. For smaller keloids, treatments such as injections, lasers, or isotopes can be considered; for larger keloids, surgical removal is recommended. However, it is worth noting that the recurrence rate of keloid scars is very high, so a single treatment method is not advisable and must be combined with corresponding anti-recurrence treatments.

Tips:

It is important to keep the wound area clean to prevent foreign objects from entering and irritating the wound. In terms of diet, avoid chili peppers and greasy foods, and choose light foods to help reduce inflammation. After surgery, you should wear loose and comfortable clothing to avoid unnecessary friction on the wound due to tight clothing. At the same time, when the wound feels itchy and painful, do not scratch it with your hands to avoid infection. In addition, using saline or al cohol to clean the scarred area can effectively reduce inflammation. Also, try to minimize sweating at the wound site, as compounds in sweat may irritate the scar, causing pain and itching.

In order to promote wound healing as quickly as possible and shorten the inflammatory proliferation period, we need to take some measures. The inflammatory proliferative phase may last from several months to two years or more, during which the scar is in an unstable state. Therefore , we need to minimize this period of time to reduce the risk of scarring. This includes measures such as keeping the wound clean, eating properly, avoiding irritation, and anti-inflammation in a timely manner. Through these efforts, we can better manage scars , promote their healing, and reduce potential discomfort and cosmetic concerns.
