Treating bedsore scabs

In the world of medicine, the presence of bedsores is often a warning sign of improper patient care or handling. Sometimes, a thick layer of black scab forms on the surface of the bedsore, which often makes the patient's family mistakenly believe that the wound is healing, but in fact it is not. Under this black scab, there may be pus and necrotic tissue hidden, which cannot be discharged from the body. Instead, they penetrate downward, forming deeper holes or subcutaneous cavities, where a large number of germs can breed, causing the infection to spread.

Staging assessment of bedsores is key to determining their severity. Internationally accepted diagnostic standards classify bedsores into stages 1, 2, 3, and 4, and the depth of the wound in each stage is different. We must be vigilant for those bedsores whose surface is covered with black scabs and whose stage is difficult to determine. This black scab is not a real sign of healing, but an illusion, a false healing.

This black scab not only affects our judgment of the stage of bedsores but also hinders our understanding of the true condition of the wound. Clinically, we call this a non-stageable pressure injury. In order to accurately assess the stage of a bedsore and determine its severity, we must uncover this layer of black scab and observe the depth of tissue damage beneath it. Only in this way can we develop an effective treatment plan.

How to treat?

In the face of such bedsores, treatment strategies are particularly important. Considering that patients are often older and in poor physical condition, we should try to use conservative treatment methods. At present, traditional Chinese medicine has shown remarkable results in treating bedsores. For example, external application of Shenyinuo Decubitus Ointment or Mat Sore Ointment can promote the discharge of slough, necrotic tissue, and the growth of new flesh by simmering pus, removing rot, softening and falling off the black scab. At the same time, surgical debridement is also an effective treatment method. After removing the scab, you can promptly apply a series of medicines such as Shenyinuo. Decubitus Cream achieves the purpose of removing pus, removing decay, and growing muscles.

During the treatment process, we should also pay attention to the patient's overall condition and provide comprehensive care and nutritional support. Only in this way can we effectively treat black-crusted bedsores and help patients recover as soon as possible. At the same time, we should also strengthen the education of patients and their families to let them understand the true status and treatment strategies of bedsores, so as to better cooperate with treatment and jointly overcome this medical problem. For the treatment of black scab, hydrogen peroxide and saline are indispensable tools. They soften the black scab and prepare it for subsequent treatment. When the black scab softens, gently push it away and cut it off with tweezers and scissors. It is also important to clean up the dead tissue underneath the black scab. Rinsing with saline, wiping with cotton swabs, and the combined use of tweezers and scissors are all necessary steps. Finally, topical bedsore ointment is used together with silicone gel foam dressing to help dissolve and liquefy the wound surface and promote wound healing. Treatment of decubitus scabs requires careful observation and appropriate manipulation. Only by truly understanding the wound-healing process can we make correct judgments and treatments.
