A scorching summer is a high-incidence season for burns. Hot soup, boiling water, barbecue grills, motorcycle exhaust pipes, and other sources of burns can all be sources of burns. Understanding the correct burn treatment and care methods can effectively reduce damage and accelerate wound healing.
Burn treatment:
For 15-20 minutes, preferably at a temperature between 15-25°C. Avoid applying ice directly to the burn area to prevent secondary injury. After rinsing, gently dry the burn area; avoid rubbing or popping blisters. Summer heat can easily lead to sweating, making wounds more susceptible to infection, so special care must be taken to keep the wound surface clean. For superficial second-degree burns and below, hydrogel dressings are ideal. These dressings contain a high amount of water, providing a continuous moist environment. Clean the wound thoroughly before applying. Then, cut the dressing to the size of the wound, extending the edge 2-3 cm beyond the wound. Hydrogel dressings effectively reduce heat and relieve pain, and their transparency allows for easy observation of the wound's condition. Generally, they should be changed every 2-3 days, or if they become dry or have excessive exudate.
Special attention should be paid to the care of burn wounds in summer :
- Keep the wound dry and clean to avoid sweat soaking in.
- Wear sunscreen when going out, as newly healed skin is particularly sensitive to ultraviolet rays
- Wear loose, breathable clothing to reduce friction; avoid swimming or bathing to prevent infection.
Always have care products at home to be prepared:
Hydrogel dressings offer several advantages over traditional dressings: they provide a moist environment to accelerate epithelial cell growth; they offer significant pain relief; they adhere to the wound surface during replacement; and their transparent nature allows for easy observation. However, it should be noted that self-application of hydrogel dressings is not recommended for burns of second degree or higher, infected wounds, or large areas of burns; seek medical attention promptly.
Preventing burns in summer is more important!
Be careful with hot oil or water in the kitchen; pay attention to the temperature of the product when using sunscreen; park your motorcycle away from the exhaust pipe; and avoid contact with exposed metal objects during outdoor activities. Parents should pay special attention to children and keep dangerous items such as thermoses out of their reach.
Seek medical attention immediately if any of the following symptoms occur after a burn: the wound is larger than the palm of your hand; it affects the face, hands, feet, joints, or other areas; there are signs of infection such as increased redness and swelling, cloudy exudate, or fever; or the burn is a second-degree burn or higher. Special populations, such as the elderly and diabetics, require particular attention to burn care.
