Using ostomy care products involves several steps, including selecting and wearing an ostomy appliance, caring for the skin around the stoma, and managing any associated symptoms or complications.

General steps to follow when using ostomy care products:

Selecting an ostomy appliance: Choose an ostomy appliance that fits well, provides good skin protection and is comfortable to wear. Your healthcare provider can help you choose the right appliance for you based on the type and location of your stoma, as well as your lifestyle and personal preferences.
Preparing the skin: Clean the skin around the stoma before applying the ostomy appliance. Use a skin barrier spray, cream, or wipe to protect the skin from irritation caused by the adhesive on the appliance.
Attaching the appliance: Open the appliance and remove the backing from the adhesive. Position the appliance over the stoma and press down firmly to ensure a secure seal.
Emptying the appliance: It's important to empty the appliance regularly to prevent it from overflowing. When you're ready to empty the appliance, simply remove it from the skin and empty the contents into the toilet.
Cleaning the appliance: Clean the inside of the appliance with water and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and allow it to air dry. If necessary, you can also clean the skin around the stoma to remove any adhesive residue.
Managing symptoms: Some people with ostomies experience symptoms such as gas, odor, or discomfort. There are several products available to help manage these symptoms, including deodorants, skin barriers, and wipes.
