Using our round and oval stoma measurement guide helps ensure a good skin barrier fit and helps prevent peristomal skin complications.

A good fit means that the skin barrier opening coincides with where the skin and stoma meet and that you have filled any gaps, creases, or folds. Use these guidelines to measure stoma size before each use of the barrier during the first 6-8 weeks after stoma surgery to ensure stoma size is established as swelling decreases. Afterward, regular measurements are made to make sure the stoma size has not changed due to other factors such as weight gain or loss.
